What is a hair color try on?

A hair color try on previews a new shade on a photo of you before you buy dye or book a colourist. This one is fast and private: an on-device hair segmentation model finds every strand it can see, the face and background are left untouched, and the shade you pick is blended into the hair only, using the colour of the dye and the light and shadow of your own hair.

22 shades in natural and vivid families

Natural shades run from natural black, espresso and chocolate through chestnut, caramel, honey blonde, ash blonde and platinum. Warm reds include copper, auburn, burgundy, rose brown and cherry red. Fashion colours cover blue black, navy, teal, emerald, lavender, violet and pink, plus silver and warm grey. Each shade is labelled warm, cool or neutral, and a custom picker lets you try any colour you have in mind.

Keeps your own highlights and shadows

The tint replaces hue and saturation but keeps the light and dark of your existing hair, so curls, waves and shine still read as yours. That is why a light shade looks more convincing on lighter hair, much as real dye shows up best when hair has been lightened first.

Why use our hair color try on?

Most hair colour tools want an app download or an upload to a server. This hair color try on works in the browser, keeps the photo on your device, needs no account and lets you compare shades in seconds, so you can narrow down a direction before spending money on dye.

Private by design

Detection, recolouring and saving all happen locally in your browser. The photo is never uploaded for this tool, and closing the page removes it. Saved comparisons go straight to your own downloads folder.

Before and after in one frame

A reveal slider wipes between the tinted and original photo, and a strength slider from 20% to 90% shows the difference between a gloss and full coverage. Save the current comparison as a PNG to show friends or your colourist. Switch to the live camera to see the same shade on your moving hair from every angle, with nothing recorded or uploaded.

How to use the hair color try on in 3 steps

  1. Add a photo with your hair in view

Use a front-facing photo in daylight with hair around the face and a plain background if possible. Hats, busy backgrounds and hair pulled tightly back make the hair region harder to estimate.

Check your photo in a true mirror
  2. Pick a shade and set the strength

Tap any of the 22 swatches, then move the strength slider until the result looks like the kind of colour you have in mind. Lower strength suits glosses and subtle tones; higher strength shows full coverage.

Analyse your skin tone and redness
  3. Compare and save your favourites

Drag the reveal slider to compare with your natural colour, save the shades you like as PNG files, and look at them side by side in good light before deciding on dye or a salon appointment.

Hair color try on FAQ

How to change hair color in a photo?

Upload the photo above, pick one of the 22 shades and adjust the tint strength. The hair color try on recolours a region around your head while leaving your face unchanged, and you can save the result as a PNG. No editing software or layers are needed.

How to try on hair colors online?

Open this page in any modern browser, add a photo and tap through the swatches. The preview updates instantly, and nothing is uploaded because the recolouring happens on your device.

What color should I dye my hair virtual try on?

Try a few shades close to your natural colour first, then one or two bolder ones, and compare them in the same light. If you want a starting point, a seasonal colour analysis suggests whether warm or cool tones suit your skin.

How to try on hair color?

Add a clear photo, choose a shade, set the strength and use the before/after slider. Save the shades you like and compare them later in daylight.

Is this hair color try on free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no account, no watermark on saved images and no limit on how many shades you try.

Do I need a hair color try on app?

No. The tool runs in your phone or desktop browser, so there is nothing to install.

Does the hair color try on work for men?

Yes. It works on any photo where the hair around the face is visible, including short men's cuts, although very short hair gives the tint less area to show.

Is this a hair color filter?

Yes. On a photo you choose a shade and see it blended into your hair, fine-tune the strength and save a before/after comparison. Switch to the live camera and it works like a live hair colour filter, recolouring your hair as you move, processed only in your browser. Saved images carry a small "Edited preview" label in the corner.

Can I try highlights or balayage?

Not as separate streaks. The tool applies one even shade to the hair region; lowering the strength gives a softer, blended look, but placed highlights and balayage need a colourist's plan.

Which shades can I try?

Twenty-two: natural black, espresso, chocolate, chestnut, caramel, honey blonde, ash blonde, platinum, copper, auburn, burgundy, rose brown, cherry red, blue black, navy, teal, emerald, lavender, violet, pink, silver and warm grey. A custom colour picker covers anything else, and every shade shows whether it reads warm, cool or neutral.

How do the strength and before/after sliders work?

Strength sets how strongly the shade is blended, from 20% to 90%. The reveal slider shows the tinted photo on one side and the original on the other, so you can compare them in one frame.

Why does the colour miss some hair or touch the background?

The hair is found by a segmentation model running on your device, with softened edges so the colour fades out naturally. Fine flyaways, very light hair against a light background, hats and beards can still be missed or partly tinted, so a plain background and loose hair around the face work best. If the model cannot run on your device, the tool falls back to an estimate from your face outline and says so.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is recoloured on your device and never sent to a server by this tool.
